To add so much of something to a liquid that the liquid can't hold any more.
Supersaturate can make people think of science experiments or making things very, very wet.
Examples:
I will supersaturate the water with sugar.
She tries to supersaturate the lemonade with salt.
The scientist wants to supersaturate the solution with salt.
If you supersaturate the sponge, it will be too wet to use!
He supersaturates his pancakes with syrup until they are swimming in it.
The rain will supersaturate the ground until it is like a big, wet sponge.
