What we collect

  • Usage data: IP address, device/browser info, pages viewed, events, rough location from IP (via Google Analytics 4 and/or PostHog).
  • Communications: messages you send us (email, LinkedIn).
  • Accounts (if enabled): name, email, and settings.
  • Payments (if enabled): processed by Stripe; we never store card numbers.
  • Chrome Extension (if installed): word lookups and basic telemetry to improve the product. No selling of data.

Why we collect it

  • Provide and improve the dictionary, exercises, and site.
  • Analytics to understand what helps learners.
  • Security, fraud prevention, and required logging.
  • Customer support and service notices.

  • Legitimate interests (operate/improve the service, security).
  • Consent (where required for analytics/marketing cookies).
  • Contract (when you create an account or subscribe).
  • Legal obligation (tax/audit retention).

Who processes data (sub-processors)

  • Hosting/CDN: Vercel (front end), AWS (APIs & storage).
  • Analytics: Google Analytics 4, PostHog.
  • Payments: Stripe (when enabled).
  • Email: your provider to/from eron@freetalk.fun.

Cookies & tracking

We use cookies/local storage for core features and analytics. In regions where required, we show a consent banner for analytics cookies. You can block cookies in your browser.

Data retention

  • Analytics events: 14-26 months (provider defaults).
  • Account/support records: while your account is active and as required by law.
  • Server/edge logs: 30-90 days.

Your rights

Depending on your location: access, correction, deletion, portability, and restriction/objection. Request by emailing eron@freetalk.fun. You can also opt out of analytics via your browser or our banner (where shown).

Children

FreeTalk.fun isn't directed to children under 13 (or the age defined by local law).

International transfers

Our providers may process data in countries other than yours. We rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g., SCCs) offered by those providers.

No sale of personal data

We do not sell your personal information.

Chrome Extension note

If you install the FreeTalk Dictionary extension, the store listing links to this policy and explains what the extension collects. Any extension data is used only to provide and improve the service.
