Il modo congiuntivo esprime desideri, suggerimenti, richieste o situazioni ipotetiche—cose che non sono reali o certe.

Perché È Importante

Nella maggior parte dell'inglese, usiamo forme verbali regolari. Ma in certe situazioni formali, il congiuntivo usa una forma speciale:

Regolare: He is late. — Lui è in ritardo. Congiuntivo: I suggest that he be on time. — Suggerisco che lui sia puntuale. (non "is")

Quando Usarlo

1. Dopo verbi di suggerimento, richiesta o domanda:

Schema: I suggest/demand that + soggetto + verbo base

Esempi:

• I suggest that he be here at 9. — Suggerisco che lui sia qui alle 9.
• She demands that they arrive on time. — Lei esige che arrivino in orario.

2. Dopo "It is + aggettivo" (importanza/necessità):

Esempi:

• It is important that he be present. — È importante che lui sia presente.

3. Desideri e ipotetici con "were":

Usa "were" per tutti i soggetti:

• I wish I were rich. — Vorrei essere ricco.
• If I were you, I would study more. — Se fossi in te, studierei di più.
